Inspired by van Gogh: The Self Portrait
Perhaps the most famous artist in the world, Vincent van Gogh (1853-1890) had an innovative and unique artistic style that was of enormous importance to a host of artists who followed in his wake. Van Gogh's career as a painter was short, but his paintings revolutionized artistic practice and styles. The intensity of his vision, his wonderful sense of color and the extraordinary boldness of his technique created masterpieces that exercised a profound influence on the art of the twentieth century.
After taking a tour through his work, particularly his many self portraits, we'll no doubt be inspired to try our hand at his signature brush strokes and color palette, and create a masterwork of our own!
We'll be using ArtLab Self-Portrait Launcher (aka: our big classroom mirror!) to find inspiration during our class.
