Class Descriptions
Intro to Visual Journaling (2 hours / $ 30-45 per artist)
Explore the journal format as a medium for self-expression in this creative class . . . it’s all about artistic experimentation! Get started with the basic tools of keeping a visual journal, and overcome the fear of the blank, white page. Subsequent individual sessions (listed separately) will focus on different mixed media techniques: painting, drawing, collage, stamps, stencils, photo transfers, lettering, and more. Journaling has never been so fun! All materials, including a pre-prepped, 9x12 spiral bound mixed media journal, provided for $45. If you prefer to bring your own journal, please let us know when you register, and you will be charged $30. This class is also offered in a 3 hour format for $ 45-60 per artist. |
Visual Journaling - Hidden Pockets (2 hours/ $ 30 per artist)
(Note: This class is best taken after you've had "Intro to Visual Journaling," or if you have already started a visual journal of your own.) Continue your exploration of the journal format as a medium for self-expression and creative experimentation! Each technique session will be "all levels," for both beginner and experienced students, and offer a prompt to help us get started. All materials, except for the journal itself, provided as part of the class fee. Artists are also welcome to bring personal photos, images from magazines, favorite poems or lyrics, and any other two dimensional memorabilia they might like to incorporate. If you'd like us to include a pre-prepped journal (9x12 mixed media, spiral bound, with several gessoed pages, just $15), let us know when you register. Otherwise, bring your own! This class can also be offered in a 3 hour format for $ 45 per artist. |

CINDI SPILLMAN
Photography, Mixed Media, Visual Journaling, Art Camps, SoulCollage® Photography has long been Cindi’s primary art form. She has studied with renowned documentary photographers (including Mary Ellen Mark, Bruce Davidson, Sam Abel, and Antonin Kratochvil), photojournalist Peter Turnley, and National Geographic editor Leah Bendavid-Val and is working on publishing her first book of photographic images, D is for Dog. She'll tell you that ArtLab has three rules: 1. Tell your inner critic to take a hike. 2. Try it—even if someone once told you that you weren’t good at it. 3. Have fun! Quotes that inspire Cindi’s creative practice: "It does not matter how slowly you go as long as you do not stop." —Confucius "The fun for me in collaboration is . . . that working with other people just makes you smarter; that’s proven." —Lin-Manuel Miranda |
